Our Divisions

  • Special Response Team (S.R.T.)

    The Hazleton Police Department is one of the very few Departments in the area that gives officers the unique opportunity to serve as a member of the Special Response Team (S.R.T.). S.R.T. is trained to handle various situations that may arise within and around the city.

  • K9 Unit

    The Hazleton Police Department currently has a 4 member K9 Unit, and is looking to expand in the near future. This unit is currently training with the PennVet Working Dog Center, one of the premiere training groups on the east coast.

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Unit (Drones)

    The Hazleton Police Department currently has two drones in service, a Mavic 2 and a Matrice 300 RTK. HPD maintains numerous FAA certified pilots within the Department.

  • Narcotics Unit

    DEA Task Force – HPD has a Detective assigned full-time to the DEA Scranton Regional Office bringing the vast resources of that Agency to our department and our investigations.

    Luzerne County Drug Task Force – Detectives and Officers assigned to the County Drug Task Force combat narcotics trafficking on a regional scale. The Task Force provides considerable resources and support for large scale investigations free of jurisdictional boundaries.

  • Criminal Detectives Unit

    HPD’s Criminal Detectives handle the most serious and complex crimes that occur in our jurisdiction. These skilled investigators handle homicides, robberies, child abuse, financial crimes, and many other violations. Pennsylvania State Police Northeast Computer Crimes Task Force – Detectives assigned to this task force receive specialized training and equipment to investigate internet predators.

  • In-house Instructor Development

    HPD values our employees and seeks to develop each one to their fullest potential. We have numerous in-house instructors including, Firearms, Active Shooter, Defensives Tactics, Taser, OC Spray, Combat Medics, First Aid, CPR, etc.

    In fact, HPD regularly provides trainings to other local departments and officers.

  • Critical Incident Stress Management Team

    Law Enforcement can be stressful work and HPD provides peer support to help Officers get through the toughest times. We are a family.
